WRF Artists Rotator
In the month of May, Indianapolis is unmistakably preoccupied with black and white checkered flags, car culture imagery, and of course the ubiquitous “Welcome Race Fans” banners that boldly blanket the city everywhere from your neighbor’s front porch and the local cafe on up to the most upscale restaurants and hotels. At no other time is the city of Indianapolis so singularly focused on one event. This year marks the 100th running of the Indy 500. In response to this historic and momentous occasion, the Arts Council of Indianapolis has partnered with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to celebrate the history, culture, and excitement of the Indy 500 by commissioning 33 Indiana artists to create their own unique Welcome Race Fans works of art. In reference to the 33 cars that race in the Indy 500, these 33 visual representations of our passion for the race will appear in shop windows, on the sides of buildings, and in cultural institutions all over the city.

Learn more about ways the arts and cultural communities are helping to celebrate the 100th Running including Artful Tread on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Porch Parties, poetry contest and more.
